December is a great time to reflect on the year you just had. A year end review is a simple exercise that will help you gain clarity of the year. In this blog post we will look at how to reflect on the year and the importance of it. Looking back over a period and being able to go over your wins, losses and lessons is an important and key part of ones personal development journey. We can’t grow by simply sweeping every negative experience under the rug and counting the year out.
How to break down your annual Reflections:
1. We start by identifying the different sections in your life:
What were the key themes in your life? This could be your health & wellness, business & career, your spirituality, your relationships to name a few.
2. Focus on each theme with these prompts or questions
Look at each theme ( let’s look at health and wellness for this illustration) and ask yourself the following questions:
What are some lessons from my health and wellness journey this year?
What do I need to do more of that worked this year in the new year?
Where do I need to scale back on in the new year?
These questions will help you reflect and review your journey, and this will result in you being better prepared for the new year.
3. Yearly review
Some areas in your life might not have been in a theme, take some time to write down your greatest achievements of the year, your most favourite moments and the people who were there with you throughout. This could serve as a gratitude list.
There is no right or wrong way to go about it, this exercise is designed to help you focus on the positive of your year, draw lessons from the negative and build a foundation for your new year.
